What the exam looks like — the numbers from the official guide
Sixty items, a hundred and twenty minutes, a pass at 720 on a 100-1,000 scale, and seven domains that add to exactly 100% — with a source for every figure

Before the content, it is worth knowing what you are walking into. The exam guide collects it in Section 5, Exam Details at a Glance.

That last clause matters more than it looks — where an item takes more than one answer, the item itself tells you how many. There is nothing to guess.
The time to actually set aside is not 120 minutes
Anthropic's certification FAQ separates the two.
"You have 120 minutes to answer them. Plan for about 135 minutes of total seat time"
The difference is check-in and instructions.
Per item, that works out as
60 items in 120 minutes = 2.0 minutes each
keeping 15 minutes to review = 1.75 minutes eachTwo minutes per item, on scenario questions. That is not generous, and it is why reading the items is a lesson in this course.
720 does not mean 72%
This is the most common misreading. The result is a scaled score, not the percentage of items you got right. Section 9 explains how it is decided.
"The Claude Certified Associate – Foundations exam is a criterion-referenced assessment: each candidate is measured against a fixed performance standard, not against other candidates."
And where the number itself came from
"The passing score was established through a formal standard-setting study in which trained subject matter experts judged the level of performance expected of a minimally qualified candidate."
So there is no quota of passes. Everyone who meets the standard passes, and whether the people sitting that day were strong or weak does not move your result.
What the score report tells you, and what it does not decide
"Your score report also shows the percentage of items you answered correctly within each content domain. Section-level percentages are provided to help you understand your performance and are not used to determine your pass or fail result, which is based on your total scaled score."
Per-domain percentages do not decide pass or fail. They exist to show you where to read again if you have to sit it a second time — which is why this course keeps the guide's domain order instead of inventing its own.

"Weights reflect the relative importance of each domain to competent performance as determined through the job task analysis."
The three heaviest are 2, 4 and 6, which are 52% of the exam between them. If reading time is short, that is the priority the guide sets itself, not an opinion of this course.

The number of items that actually count may not be 60. Many standardised exams mix in unscored trial items. This guide says nothing about that either way, so it cannot be claimed. The phrase "scored items" does appear in Section 6 where the weights are explained, but no count is given anywhere.
The "about 13 items" figures above are my own multiplication, not numbers the guide provides. Treat them as rough proportions, not as item counts.
