The credential lasts 12 months — how renewal works
Twelve months and it expires. Renewing on time is free and unproctored; letting it lapse means the full exam at the full fee

This is not a credential you earn once. Section 14 says so plainly.
"The Claude Certified Associate – Foundations credential is valid for 12 months from the date it is awarded."
and gives its reason
"Because the underlying technology evolves rapidly, the credential is time-limited so that holders maintain current knowledge."
Renewing on time and letting it lapse are very different
"To renew on time, you review what has changed since you certified and complete a free, non-proctored assessment on the Anthropic Partner Academy. There is no fee for on-time renewal. If your credential lapses, you must retake the full exam at the full fee to regain certified status."

The condition that can make the easy route unavailable
"If exam content changes significantly, Anthropic may require holders to retake the full exam to recertify rather than complete the renewal assessment."
"May", not "will". The guide does not define how much change counts as significant, and does not say how much notice would be given, so neither can be stated here.
The only checkable observation is that the guide this course is built on is Version 1.0, effective July 2026, and its document control page records it as "Initial publication". There are no revisions yet from which to judge how often it changes.
The rules still apply after you hold it
"Holders remain subject to the rules of conduct described in Section 12."
Section 12 is the one that makes disclosing exam content grounds for revocation, and it does not stop applying when you leave the room. Someone who holds the credential and then passes questions on is still inside that rule.
What the twelve months is counted from
The guide says "from the date it is awarded", not the date you sat it. Those may not be the same day if the result is not immediate, and the guide does not say how far apart they can be.
When it lies
"Once earned it stays on your profile." It lasts 12 months, and the guide explains that this is because the technology moves quickly.
"Renewing means sitting the exam again anyway." On-time renewal is an unproctored assessment at no cost. It is not the exam.
"A little late is probably fine." The guide says a lapsed credential means the full exam at the full fee. It describes no grace period.
